Is there an issue with many non-native English speakers who see multilingualism as 'English Only'? As Rene Jorna says in the abstract to his paper, under the dominant economic model, neo-liberalism, the preservation of multilingualism is an anomaly. In the end we all speak English, or Chinese.

My reply was "I haven't given much thought to this, but possible partners could range from large public service companies (e.g. large banks, telecommunications firms, call centres, councils of large cities, etc.) that need to deal on a daily basis with people organisations from all over the world, or at least that speak many different languages.
Alternatively, there are the language engineering industries, working with ICT that copes with many languages: machine translations, memory banks for translators, voice synthesis and interpretation, etc."
Can anyone expand on this?

A good point. But surely the "English is not enough" slogan is a UK invention to try and get English-speaking monoglots to realise the value of learning one or more foreign languages.
The "English is not enough" slogan was then "adopted" by the European Union in order to encourage continental Europeans, who see the value of learning of foreign language (and in most countries actually do so), not to stop at English, but to learn a second foreign language in addition (the Barcelona Council "1+2" objective).
But to what extent is is really true that when someone from an Italian firm speaks to a Polish firm in English (for instance), they lose out? Is it true that rapport and mutual trust develop more quickly if the Italian firm has a Polish speaker on its payroll, and the policy firm an Italian-speaker?
Does the use of machine translation (even simple approximations such as those offered by Google Translate) for token salutations really help?
Do you have anecdotes to share with us?

From the one side, English is a vehicular language, is simple, spread around the word and allows to communicate. But English spoken by foreign people is poor and is subject to continuous changes.
From the other side, foreing people can be integrated in a country only if they speak the national language, English is not sufficient to be really integrated.
Moreover, languages like Spanish, chinese are spoken by a very large people around the world, also in countries that are emerging.

I'm not so sure I would use the word 'poor' to describe English used by millions of people around the world. Actually, this has become a wide field of research (English as a Lingua Franca) wherein an important argument is that this IS a variety of English and should not be judged according to 'native-like' standards. The same can be said of any widely used language used as a Lingua France (Spanish, Chinese). For multilingualism and knowledge society to 'merge' there needs to be a move beyond the 'groupthink' of valuing language use according to these 'standards'. That this is resisted by the general population is clear when you periodically see editorials in papers lamenting the demise of 'proper' language use as 'technology', 'multilingual input' and globalization 'invade our linguistic frontiers.
